DIONNE WARWICK
One of the most popular and recognizable personalities and voices in music since the early Sixties, Dionne Warwick continues to enjoy a phenomenally successful and diverse career on record, in concert, on television, and as the host of a nationally-syndicated radio show; “Love-Notes From Around The World.”
Appropriately, one of her latest albums is titled Friends Can Be Lovers and includes a duet with cousin Whitney Houston. Recently, she delved into Brazilian music with Aquarela Do Brasil.
To date, Warwick’s prowess with the love song has resulted in two #1 singles among 12 Top 10 hits and 31 Top 40 singles, including several which will forever be associated with her: “Walk On By,” “Message to Michael,” “I Say A Little Prayer,” “This Girl’s In Love With You,” and Grammy-winning “Do You Know The Way To San Jose.”
Among her other hits are the #1 “Then Came You” (with The Spinners) and Grammy-winner “That’s What Friends Are For” (with Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder and Elton John), as well as, “I’ll Never Fall In Love Again,” “Alfie,” “Anyone Who Had A Heart,” “Heartbreakers,” and Grammy-winning “I’ll Never Love That Way Again”.
She earned seven Top 40 singles in the Eighties alone, among them collaborations with Luther Vandross, Johnny Mathis, and Jeffrey Osborne. Overall, she’s garnered one Platinum album, five Gold albums (including 1985’s Friends) and five Grammy Awards.
Warwick began her career doing background sessions in New York Pop and R&B studios. Discovered by the then-relatively unknown composer Burt Bacharach, she signed her first record deal in 1962 and debuted with the hit, “Don’t Make Me Over,” written and produced by Bacharach and Hal David.
In an extraordinary life as a performer spanning more than 40 years, she has bridged Pop, R&B, Gospel, Jazz and now Brazilian music. Today, Dionne Warwick, whether singing about love on stage, TV or record, or talking about love and relationships on radio, continues to help provide the soundtrack to romance.
